Best Man

Olin Silander

Olin Silander, the best man, has known Ian or the idea of having a little brother named Ian, even before Ian was born.  It’s fair to say that as Ian’s older brother he has probably known Ian the longest of any of the groomsmen.  Starting at an early age, he had success in influencing Ian to eat various things he has located on the car floor, as well as advancing other “useful” older brotherly agendas.

Maid of Honor

Elizabeth Allen

Caroline’s first memory of Elizabeth was the Bissinger’s chocolate lollipop she was given to celebrate the birth of her sister. Soon after, Caroline realized that lollipop was the last treat she would ever be given that wouldn’t require her to share with her younger sister. It turned out that sharing with Elizabeth wasn’t all bad. In the last 26 years,  the two have shared bedrooms all over the world, countless jars of pickles and laughs so loud they were scolded by their parents to quiet down. The two don’t go a day without texting the other, a habit that developed in 1997 when they were both given Magic Diaries, allowing them to send secret message about their parents and organize clandestine kitchen meetings. Having moved around growing up, Caroline and Elizabeth have always known how lucky they are to have a built-in best friend wherever they go, a sentiment that has continued into adulthood. While they still get scolded to quiet down for laughing too loudly, Elizabeth remains Caroline’s most trusted advisor, greatest supporter and best-est friend.

The Bridesmaids

Sibel Karabeyoglu

Caroline met Sibel during a tour of their soon-to-be High School in Istanbul. During this tour, Caroline and Sibel quickly realized they had nothing in common and had zero interest in being friends. To their disappointment, the two were forced to share a room at questionable hostel in Prague while visiting for a soccer tournament. Somehow, during their brief stint as roommates, Sibel and Caroline found some common ground – mainly, food, sarcasm and small time thievery. After spending four years living together at Knox, the two became so close Sibel developed the ability to read Caroline’s mind based only on her facial expressions. Despite living on separate continents for the last few years, Caroline and Sibel still find things to bicker about – which is how they know they’ll be friends for life, yo.

Mary Batterman

Mary Batterman, a renowned drifter, started dropping by Caroline and Sibel’s dorm in 2005 with large bottles of wine to share with them. Since Sibel and Caroline had dedicated almost their entire dorm room to a “chill out area”,  Mary and other visitors couldn’t help but want to “chill out” there as much as possible. During their junior year at Knox, Mary and Caroline found a huge, partially livable apartment that they decided to call The Mansion. While at the Mansion, Mary and Caroline solidified their friendship though a shared misunderstanding of their television and the delicate pairing of expensive cheeses with boxed wine. Kindred adventurers, no matter where they might reside, Mary and Caroline always find a way to rendezvous so they can add to their long list of crazy stories.

Sarah Koenig

While Caroline had encountered the legendary Hurrikoenig at a number of Knox functions, she didn’t get to know the real Sarah Koenig until, like Mary, Sarah just couldn’t stop chilling out in Caroline and Sibel’s acclaimed “chill out area.” Caroline convinced Sarah to move to St. Louis with her after graduation, where the two lived in their dream apartment, loved their jobs and spent hours on their deck chatting to the annoyance of their landlord who lived below.  During this year in St. Louis, Caroline and Sarah learned of their similar feelings about made-up social theories, the band INXS and the city of St. Louis. A true best friend, Sarah regularly accompanied Caroline on her drives from St. Louis to Chicago to visit Ian, even helping Caroline devise the made-up reasons that they   had   to go there. Without Sarah, this wedding may not have happened.

The Groomsmen

Sam Sowl

Sam Sowl has been friends with Ian since locking eyes together at Knox College knowingly, after watching others’ misdeeds. Their friendship reached a high point, and has been there ever after, since they began discussing and acting out how one of their mutual friends, Scotty, launched himself onto a chair and broke it, even though it was really Ben who had broken it the whole time.

Andrew Eaton

Andrew “Andy” Eaton, has known Ian since he first sat next to him on the carpet of Mrs. Salesses first grade class.  They kindled their friendship through their love of building various ill put together Lego constructs and through their many Nerf gun battles, often trying to locate where that last Nerf arrow really went.

Tim Gorin

Tim Gorin has known Ian since the 2nd grade of Elementary School.  Their collective love of action figures and rolling dice during epic games Axis and Allies has made their friendship all the more powerful.

Mitchell Wyatt

Mitchell Wyatt has known Ian since moving to Silver Falls Lane in the third grade.  They quickly became friends as they both shared the mutual interest of stick fighting in the woods and building various traps while waiting for the school bus.
